Greater Shepparton City Council recognised for community engagement

The Municipal Association of Victoria has awarded Greater Shepparton City Council equal first place in the Community Voice Award in the inclusive democratic engagement category.

The award recognised council’s innovative and comprehensive engagement that was used to develop the 2025-29 Council Plan.

The engagement included community consultation, online engagement, community pop-up sessions, a deliberative community panel, workshops with councillors and staff and public exhibitions.

Council chief executive Fiona Le Gassick said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of staff, councillors and the community.

“I would like to recognise and thank the many staff from across council who worked together to design and deliver an inclusive and innovative engagement process, creating genuine opportunities for people to share their views, experiences and aspirations for Greater Shepparton,” Ms Le Gassick said.

The award was presented at the 2026 MAVlab Innovation Awards held at the Fitzroy Town Hall on Thursday, September 17.

The other joint winner was Kingston City Council.
