Aaron Bose Abin swung the racquet for Victoria Country’s under-13 side that vied for the Pat Murray Shield during the Melbourne-hosted Junior Team Championships on August 3-4.
While Abin didn’t secure a trophy, his experience competing alongside regional Victoria’s top young players left him inspired and motivated.
“This is the biggest exposure I’ve ever had and it was very fun,” he said.
“I’ll keep training to improve.”
Billed as a platform for nurturing young talent, the championships offered a space for metropolitan and regional teams to compete and build team culture from the grassroots up.
Abin took part in Victoria Country's inaugural appearance at the championships, which featured cut-throat competition given the high standard of metro invitees.
Vountus Indra, the experienced head coach of Victoria Country’s under-17 team, commended the entire squad for its outstanding performance.
“The teams played a great brand of badminton and showed exactly why they were selected in the Vic Country squad,” he said.
“(They showed) amazing fighting spirit and never giving in attitude was the Victorian way.”
Badminton Victoria chief executive Clint Proctor echoed Indra's sentiments, praising Abin and his teammates for their commendable efforts in such a competitive badminton arena.
“It was fantastic to witness everyone from around regional Victoria come together and compete at the State Junior Teams,” he said.
“We are incredibly proud of all the players’ commitment to the sport and high performance.”
