It didn’t take long for Northern Rivers’ Junior Country Week carnival to feel the full wrath of Mother Nature.

The Goulburn and Murray regions were smashed by wild weather on Tuesday afternoon as severe thunderstorms brought destructive winds, hail and heavy rainfall.
Majority of matches on the opening day were completed before thunderstorms rolled through the Greater Shepparton region about 4pm.
However, with some towns and cities receiving more than 50mm of rain, carnival organisers decided to pull the pin on Wednesday’s games.
The first day of play was memorable for Cricket Shepparton’s outfits.
The under-17s won their first Twenty20 match at Cohuna, with Old Students young guns Sam O’Brien (59 not out) and Oscar Lambourn (37 not out) the two standouts in the nine-wicket thrashing of Bendigo District Cricket Association.
In the under-16s it was a reversal of results, with Bendigo’s contingent getting the better of Cricket Shepparton.
Rain washed out the under-15 clash against Goulburn Murray Cricket.
Northerners’ Bayden Hutchins chalked up 47 runs in Cricket Shepparton’s first innings dig of 151.
GMC managed 2-38 in 15.3 overs.
Bendigo defeated Cricket Shepparton in the under-14s by five wickets, while under-12 White suffered a nine-wicket defeat.
