Burst water main in Kialla Lakes

Kialla Lakes residents woke to a watery surprise this morning, when a burst water main flooded a number of streets.

A major water main on Kialla Lakes Dve burst in the early hours of the morning, leaving Ganaway Cres, Illawarra Cres and a section of Kialla Lakes Dve between Gordon Dve and the eastern entrance to Illawarra Cres inundated with water.

Goulburn Valley Water operations manager Steven Nash apologised for the inconvenience and said crews attended the scene about 5.30 am.

“When the main burst, our booster pumps have activated to increase the pressure in the main, which has increased the flow and resulted in a higher than normal volume of water over the road,” Mr Nash said.

As the burst occurred close to a power pole, Goulburn Valley Water worked with Powercor to ensure the site was safe and other services weren’t affected.

Customers in nearby areas also experienced a drop in water pressure as a result of the burst main.

Mr Nash said the repair process was quite complex, however crews were able to restore the water supply to the area by 3 pm.

“We’re really grateful to the residents for their patience during the burst, particularly considering the long, complex repair at a time when people needed access to water in the morning,” he said.

An investigation is continuing to discover what caused the burst.
