Ratu Meli Bainimarama, 36, son of former Fiji PM Frank Bainimarama, faces 18 charges including assault, stalking, destroying property, choking without consent, and recording and distributing an image without consent in relation to alleged incidents in 2022.
On Friday, Bainimarama's barrister AJ Karim, while seeking to adjourn the matter at Parramatta Local Court, said it was "objectively" one of the more serious sets of domestic violence allegations he had seen.
"The allegations are extremely serious," Mr Karim told the court.
The court heard the alleged offences took place over several months last year and that there would be evidence at hearing from the complainant, a flatmate and police witnesses.
Text messages, photographs and alleged "intimate" material from the accused's mobile phone also formed part of the brief of evidence, the court was told.
Mr Karim said there were "certain complexities" in the case including the complainant's "extensive criminal history" of dishonesty that involved fraud and counterfeiting.
"I haven't received detailed information in relation to that," Mr Karim said.
The Crown opposed an adjournment and was "ready to go", the court heard.
The adjournment application continues before Magistrate Gareth Christofi.
