Limited parking in the vicinity of the new Echuca-Moama bridge, at least on the Victorian side of the Murray River overpass, has community event organisers encouraging people to “get on their bikes”.

Attendance at the Sunday, April 10, event — which will kick off with mobility buses providing an up close and personal experience for those unable to be involved in the Walk of the People — is expected to be in the thousands.
Because no parking is available at Warren St — there will be pedestrian access only — and with limited car parking elsewhere, organisers are encouraging people planning to attend to consider walking or cycling to the event.
Some bicycle parking will be available at the Crofton St entry gate in Echuca.
A second connection between the Echuca and Moama communities has been more than 50 years in the making, hence the extraordinary interest in the event, which was only announced a fortnight ago.
Now that a second Echuca-Moama river crossing is a reality, commemorating the event seems to be a significant bucket-list item for members of the Victorian and NSW communities.
And just how many take the opportunity to walk across the mighty Murray River before your newest bridge opens to traffic is the big unknown.
Pets and bikes are not permitted on the bridge for the Walk of the People and anyone requiring mobility assistance needs to contact organisers by 10am today (Friday, April 8) on 1800 105 105 and select option five.
