Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has formally appealed the court verdict handed down against him, his lawyer told Norwegian news agency NTB.
An Oslo court sentenced Hoiby to four years in prison for 34 offences earlier this month. He is challenging his convictions on two counts of rape as well as a conviction related to abuse during a relationship with a former girlfriend.
Hoiby, 29, had been charged with four counts of rape but was convicted in only two cases.
An appeal trial may not take place until next year, according to Norwegian media reports
Hoiby has been held in detention since early February. He had been seeking release, citing the severe lung disease of his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit. His latest request came immediately after the verdict, but the court rejected it.
His lawyer told the Aftenpost newspaper that Hoiby will not appeal that decision and accepted that he will remain in detention pending further legal processes.
