The Federal Aviation Administration notified the coast guard early on Saturday that it had lost contact with the plane, a Gulfstream jet used as a medical transfer aircraft, a coast guard spokesperson said by email.
The Canadian-registered air ambulance jet had four crew members and two passengers on board when it departed Bermuda's LF Wade International Airport overnight for the flight to Massachusetts, according to a statement from the Bermuda airport's operator Skyport.
Four of the six people on board the flight were Canadian citizens, the country's Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon said on X.
Transport Canada is closely monitoring and working with authorities for search and rescue efforts, he said.
The US coast guard said it has dispatched air and surface crews to search for the plane near Nantucket, an affluent island community south of mainland Massachusetts.
Weather conditions in Nantucket were clear as of Saturday morning according to Accuweather.
The aircraft had taken off from LF Wade International Airport for a nearly two-hour, late-night flight to Boston Logan International Airport, according to FlightAware.
