Shepparton Festival: ¡Ópera Española! will bring its captivating show to Dookie on Friday night.

A multitude of fun-filled options is available in Greater Shepparton and surrounds for all your weekend’s festivities. From Spanish operas to motor shows, and everything brass and wind in between, there’s no shortage of occasions to satiate your event-going appetite.

FRIDAY

¡Ópera Española! (Spanish Opera)

Experience the cultural vibrancy of Spain without getting on a plane. Dookie’s Tallis Wine will host two captivating ensembles in an immersive fiesta on Friday night starting at 6pm. Directed by international opera singer Allegra Giagu, ¡Venga! and Eterno Flamenco bring together the talents of Mamás Bravas, acclaimed dancers Chantelle Cano and Johnny Tedesco (Arte Kanela), and guitarist Gerard Mapstone in one unforgettable night.

Cost: $65 to $150, food and drinks available for pre-order and purchase.

SATURDAY

CFA-VFBV State Firefighter Championships

Following on from the success of last weekend’s junior events, the State Firefighter Championships returns in all its hosing, hydrant-using glory. The weekend will behold sporting events, kids’ activities, food trucks and more at Mooroopna’s Recreation Reserve. Attendees are also invited to Saturday night’s Torchlight Procession. The event will light up Welsford St in Shepparton at 8.30pm to commemorate the CFA’s rich history.

Cost: Free entry.

Horse show

Giddy on up to the Shepparton Agricultural Society’s Horse Show at Tatura Park Recreation Reserve this Saturday. A diverse range of events including pony club, fun ring and off the track will see these beauties and their riders gallivanting for their chance to be donned with sashes and rugs. An assortment of prizes in numerous categories will conclude the festivities.

Cost: $10 entry.

Shepparton Theatre Arts Group presents It Takes Two

It’ll be a trip down memory lane when It Takes Two hits the stage at 2pm and 7pm on Saturday. Appearing as the taping of a ‘live’ variety show, Shepparton’s most talented performers come together with an act that rewinds all the way back to the ’60s. Memorable duets from the decade to now will delight viewers of all ages with hosts inspired by the greats: Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and Hamish and Andy.

Cost: $40.

SUNDAY

Motor Show, Market and Swap Meet

Paint will be polished and engines will be revved for the return of Shepparton’s Motor Show. The Rotary Club of Shepparton invites attendees to join it in viewing a spectacle of vintage, veteran, classic, custom and new cars, motorbikes and trucks. The Careful Cobber cars will come out to play for kids’ entertainment and market stalls including food and drinks can be moseyed through. Gates open at 8am for entrants and 9am for the public. Presentations at 1pm, with the event concluding at 2pm.

Cost: Entry fees: Display vehicles $10, public $5, children under 12 free.

Shepparton Brass and Wind

It’s a feast of musical proportions for Shepparton Brass and Wind’s annual In Your Town concert series. Presented by Riverlinks, the walls of Tatura Victory Hall will reverberate with melodies from 2.30pm to showcase the talent of a number of band members.

Cost: Gold coin donation for entry.

Mooroopna Country Music

Can I get a yee-haw for Mooroopna Country Club’s concert this Sunday? Shepparton Harness Racing Club will be all song and dance as guest artist Craig Giles hits the stage. Artists are also welcome to walk up and show off their pipes. Walk-ins start at 11am, music starts at noon and finishes at 5pm, with guest artist Craig performing between 1.30pm and 2pm and then again at 4pm. Entry fee includes tea and coffee.

Cost: Members entry $7, non-members $8.
