This weekend is sure to pack a punch, as Cultural Diversity Week and Shepparton Festival collide. Greater Shepparton will be swarming with events, but there’s no need to be overwhelmed, as the News has all the details of the upcoming action.

FRIDAY

Converge on the Goulburn

Converge on the Goulburn’s unforgettable two-day festival kicks off this Friday and Saturday. Community connectedness comes alive through intricate music and dance, authentic cuisines made from recipes passed down through generations, and a vibrant cultural marketplace. Friday’s activities run from 6pm to 9pm while Saturday is stretched out from 4pm to 10pm.

Firetail

As part of Shepparton Festival’s epic two-week lineup, jazz-fusion band Firetail are coming to Wild Life Brewing Co in Shepparton. At 7pm, the band’s own brand of jazz-tronica, combined with soul-infused rhythms and evocative melodies, will capture the hearts and ears of all.

SATURDAY

Quilt Exhibition 2023

The Mechanics Hall will come alive this Saturday and Sunday as creatives from across the region showcase their designs at the 2023 Quilt Exhibition. Appliqué, wall hangings, bed quilts and all sorts will delight viewers. Plus, raffles to be won!

Cost: Entry $8 adults, free for children accompanied by adults

George Nelson Shepparton Gift

In the lead-up to the Stawell Gift at Easter, professional athletes from across Australia will compete in the George Nelson Shepparton Gift this Saturday. From noon to 7pm, catch the sprints and middle distance races, in addition to community events such as Little Athletics, football and netball club relays, and more. The stakes are high, with a total of $15,000 in prize money up for grabs.

Multicultural Comedy Gala

Shepparton Festival and alist.com.au present the Multicultural Comedy Gala. For one night only catch the side-splitting celebration of Australia’s rich cultural diversity. A world class selection of the most acclaimed comedians will be there, including Dilruk Jayasinha, Ivan Aristeguieta and Dora Smith, to provide the entertainment from 8pm to 9.30pm.

SUNDAY

Emerald Bank Community Market

On the first and third Sunday of the month, Emerald Bank connects the region’s finest growers and producers with consumers. From 8.30am to 1.30pm, locals can check out the quality food, crafts and giftware galore the GV has to offer.

The Australian Welsh Male Choir

The Shepparton Festival is getting the party started this weekend with a remarkable performance by 60 world renowned choristers from the Australian Welsh Male Choir. Join the SAM Foundation Trustees at 10.30am for light refreshments and a delightful assortment of songs by the choir, including Men of Harlech, Calon Lan, Pantyfedwen and Gwahoddiad.

Cost: General admission $30

Choir: The 60-member Australian Welsh Male Choir will perform in Shepparton and Toolamba as part of the Shepparton Festival.

Women Only Swimming — This Girl Can

This one’s for the ladies! Aquamoves is once again partnering with VicHealth in its ‘This Girl Can — Victoria’ campaign and bringing back its Women Only Swimming sessions. Held on the first and third Sunday of each month from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, women can feel empowered to get active and overcome feelings of judgment. Enjoy a swim in the indoor 25m, leisure and hydrotherapy pools, or relax in the sauna and spas.

Cost: $6.80 adult, $4.40 child, $18 group swim (two adults and three children)

Broken Creek in concert

Broken Creek Band (Erin and Lachlan Heycox) will be playing at the Kialla Central Hall, but their music will take audience members on a journey through small-town Australia, Ireland, Scotland and the Appalachian mountains of America. Intricate arrangements of banjo, mandolin, guitar, violin and voice combine for one epic performance. Plus, special guest singers from the pop-up choir workshop. Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start.

Cost: Adult $25, concession $20, child (must be accompanied by a guardian) free
