The facility features three sites on the grassed area next to the Picola Public Hall.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson recently inspected the site alongside Friends of Picola Public Hall member Jeanette Holland and Nathalia Barmah Business and Tourism chair Roland Huber.
“This is a great new accommodation option for visitors to our region,” Dr Emonson said.
“RV-friendly locations are a drawcard for travellers, and we hope the new Picola site will encourage visitors to stay a while and enjoy everything Moira Shire has to offer.”
Dr Emonson believes the facility “will provide a welcome boost for local tourism”.
Ms Holland emphasised the site's importance in attracting visitors to Picola.
“We want people to visit our town, visit our hotel, visit our silo art, visit our park and learn about our heritage,” she said.
“This will give people an opportunity to stop here, when before they have just driven through.
“We hope they’ll stay longer.
“If we can achieve that, it’s good for the town.”
Mr Huber described the RV site as exciting for Picola.
“It’s part of supporting local businesses and giving the opportunity for locals to talk to visitors and share their experiences,” he said.
“If we can get people to spend at least a couple of days here, they can go to the pub and meet some locals and hear their stories and life experiences.”
Mr Huber hopes visitors will “go home and tell their friends that we’re a friendly shire”.
Moira Shire offers numerous camping opportunities across national parks, inland beaches and riverside locations, with access to facilities including potable water, dump points and long vehicle parking.
