Ngaire Anderson (née Robinson) was born on 21 February 1936 in Sydney, to parents Elsie Robinson (née Pomfrey) and John James Robinson ("JJ"). Her father JJ was born in 1885 in Dunedin, New Zealand, and was an ANZAC veteran - a light horseman involved in both the Gallipoli and Lone Pine campaigns. Incredibly, he was 51 years of age when Ngaire was born.
Ngaire, a quiet and reserved woman, rarely spoke about her childhood. In March 1957 she married the love of her life, Gordon ("Gordy") Anderson at St Johns Church in Maroubra.
They had first met at a dance hall, and what a dashing young couple they made. They lived in Maroubra all their lives and had three children: a son, Peter (born 1958); a daughter, Robyn (born 1960); and a third child, Gaye, who tragically passed away from heart disease in June 1972 at just four years of age.
Ngaire's marriage to Gordy stood the test of time, lasting 59 years until Gordy's passing in 2016 from Motor Neurone Disease. During that time they were devoted grandparents to Simone and Nicholas, born in 1990 and 1993 respectively.
Not long after Gordy's death, the first signs of dementia began to appear for Ngaire. This marked the beginning of a long and difficult battle with the cruel disease, eventually necessitating her move into permanent aged care in 2021. The facility was located on the shores of Lake Macquarie so she could remain close to family.
As Ngaire's condition continued to deteriorate, she sadly did not get to meet her great-grandchild, a gorgeous little girl named Willow, born in October 2024.
Ngaire passed away on 6 November 2025. She was a great lady - a wonderful wife, a terrific mother, a beautiful grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and will remain forever in our hearts.
