Poems by Doris Falidis Nickolas

Published: 12/12/2022

"Through my writing I hope to bring warmth and comfort to those who have endured loss and heartache in life - and to bring a little Hope into your lives. Especially to grieving parents such as my husband and I, as there is no greater loss than that of a precious child." - Doris Falidis Nickolas

The lucky one

You found me, I was hoping you would,

maybe I wasn't meant to keep you,

oh how I wished I could.

Ours was true love, pure and deep,

the essence behind our strength.

I held your hand, I couldn't help but weep,

though passing through,

you are the one I would choose,

All over again,

For I am,  The lucky one.

Stardust

There's an emptiness that can not be seen,

suffering that can not be put into plain words.

It occupies you inward,

until you can longer remain.

The ache without warning, cannot bear the load,

A touch of the hand, a hint of sprinkle.

Fear not my dear one,

I will lighten it for you today.

For I will sprinkle you with stardust,

and help you on your way.

Child of God

You were not supposed to go before me,

It's not meant to happen this way.

You were meant to watch ME grow old,

Cry at MY funeral,  Not the other way round.

You were not supposed to go before me,

Still,  I try to understand.  Even so,

Who am I to interrupt God's plan?

For only he knows why.

I too,  Am one of his children,

And although he is not ready for me,

In the course of time,

He will call upon me,  And we WILL be,

In each other's arms again.
