The former England, Liverpool and Tottenham goalkeeper won three European Cups and five First Division titles with Liverpool, a UEFA Cup and FA Cup with Tottenham Hotspur and 61 caps for England between 1972 and 1983. After his passing earlier this week, we look back at the extraordinary career of Ray Clemence.

Ray Clemence began his football career in 1966 at Scunthorpe United, making 46 appearances for the third-division until Bill Shankly, the manager for Liverpool, poached the 18-year-old Clemence for 18,000 pounds in 1967.

Clemence would go on to make 665 appearances for Liverpool, winning an astonishing five league titles, three Euro Cups, two UEFA Cups, the Euro Super Cup, one FA Cup and one League Cup. He played 336 football games without missing a single one from September 1972 until March 1978. He played his last game for Liverpool in the 1981 European Cup final before moving to Tottenham for more than 16 times his debut salary. He would then play over 300 matches for his new club.

After sustaining an ankle injury in 1987, Clemence retired from playing and would later coach and manage other teams.

He is remembered by football players and fans alike worldwide for his unending commitment to the sport, his intelligence, sense of humour and friendship. In their statement, his family noted that, "He was loved so much by us all and he will never be forgotten."

Rest in Peace, Ray Clemence
