It comes as Waaia was verging on a comfortable victory, trailing by 49 runs with eight wickets in hand after bowling out SYCU for 103 in the first day of the match seven days prior.
Sitting at 4-28, Jake Callow was the resistance for SYCU, piling on 43 runs amid a 54-run partnership to take United up to 82 before his departure, as another collapse of wickets ensued.
Waaia’s Sam Trower and Jordan Cleeland made starts of 10 and 16 before losing their wicket, with first and second drops Jamie Riley and Mitch Cleeland batting patiently with scores of 13 off 34 and four off 29 until stumps on day one.
With the three points to Waaia’s name, the Bombers are unable to make a leap above sixth on the Haisman Shield table, and will need to trump Katandra in round seven to enter the Christmas break period with winning form, and potentially a handy buffer and an established spot inside the top six.
For SYCU, the no result hands the club it’s first premiership points for the season, albeit the win column still displays a zero.
A clash with Mooroopna across the next fortnight will wrap up their matches in the 2025 calendar year, before returning to face the one-win 10th-placed Katandra in its first match of 2026, scheduled for mid-January, with hopes either game can yield its first victory of the summer.
