The largest lawn tennis competition in the world was played across Shepparton and Mooroopna last week and delivered a welcome four million dollar boost to the Greater Shepparton economy, as tennis players from across the nation set foot in the region.
Thirty-three sections culminated in captivating finals on Friday, with Maryborough Middies and the Bathurst Beers claiming the premier division titles.
With over 1400 competitors enjoying the local hospitality and retail offerings, the tournament has rallied more money flow at local businesses in a positive impact for the hosts.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali reflected proudly on the week-long tournament’s event management.
“Country Week is more than a sporting event – it brings people together, strengthens community spirit and welcomes thousands of visitors to our region,” Sali said.
“The atmosphere across our courts, clubs and town centres this week has been outstanding.”
Tennis Victoria president Jacqui Pirone also stated her pride for the success of the tournament.
“We have worked closely with council and both local clubs to deliver an exceptional experience for players, volunteers and spectators,” Pirone said.
“We are proud to have delivered the largest edition of Country Week to date, and we are grateful for the warm welcome from the Greater Shepparton community.”
