The popular Tatura golf and bowls hub has a stacked slate of events on the rinks and links, kicking off with a bumper golf day this Sunday.
Sponsored by Lipshut Law and Lipshut Plumbing, the tournament promises healthy competition, good vibes, and - whether by fortune or fantastic aim - potentially a new set of wheels.
Ken Muston Automotive has put a $25,000 car on the line for anyone who aces the par three ninth hole, adding an extra incentive for players on top of the competitive stroke play.
However, as Hill Top president David Roberts pointed out, it would be a tournament first.
“In the years they’ve been doing it, no one’s ever had a hole in one, although they’ve had a couple of close ones,” he said.
“It’s surrounded at the front, the left and the right-hand side by bunkers.
“You’ve got to get the green, then you’ve got to get it right in that hole.”
A day later, Hill Top plays host to the Goulburn Murray Golf Association ladies four ball pennant final, set to be contested by Cobram Barooga 2 and Kyabram Valley View/Mooroopna on Monday.
The Hoppy’s golf and bowls Christmas tournament follows on December 7 before the big ticket event arrives: the 2025-26 Victorian Fourball Championship qualifier on January 18.
Open to players from across the state, winners from each of the 13 qualifying events will gain passage to the state final on February 19-20, held at Rossdale and Spring Valley Golf Clubs.
Sweeter still, members of GMGA clubs can enter the qualifiers free of charge, with the local governing body covering entry fees.
But while there are plenty of events for adults to have a swing at, Hill Top is hoping to witness a junior membership boom as well.
Roberts said while junior numbers weren’t “fantastic”, there are signs of green shoots ahead for the club.
“We’ve got more juniors with handicaps now than we’ve had for ages, so that’s absolutely fantastic - we just need more to encourage them to play in competitions,” he said.
“Hill Top works in partnership with the GMGA, and the junior squad coaching is at Hill Top once a month.
“And then on Friday nights for the younger kids - those without handicaps - Benny Patten comes over to Hill Top and runs coaching for about eight weeks.”
So whether you’re young, sprightly or somewhere in between, Hill Top Golf and Country Club is the place to be over summer.
Roberts summed it up best.
“There’s always something happening,” he said.
