The Goulburn Valley Playing Area weekend and midweek pennant seasons are still a week away, but in the meantime, the competition’s major players have been busy securing early bragging rights.
Sunday saw Nagambie Bowls Club host the Goulburn Valley State Fours finals, with eight clubs from around the traps greasing the elbows and loading the arms for battle.
In the men’s and women’s deciders, Tallygaroopna and Hill Top reaped respective rewards in emphatic fashion.
The Redlegs quartet of David Daws, Guy Madigan, Mick Hanna and Kyle Pugh walked it in against an East Shepparton outfit featuring Vern Wright, Kelvin Beacon, Lester Norton and Don Dickinson.
Daws and his rink flew home to a 3-20 to 0-6 result, completing a flawless 4-0 run throughout the two-day tournament.
In the women’s decider, Jeannette Overall, Di Downie, Robyn Downs and Stephanie Locke landed a similarly comfortable win against Jean Sprague and her Rushworth side, rolling to a 3-18 to 0-8 victory.
The GVPA Edna Harling Shield midweek and Allan Matheson Shield weekend pennant seasons are set to kick off on October 14 and 18 respectively.
