The Nanyak Burras mentoring program is a youth leadership initiative which was set up specifically for First Nations young people between the ages of 14 and 19 with links to the wider club.
The initiative operates with a Youth Panel that sees mentors develop deeper understanding of Yorta Yorta culture and history, practical leadership skill development, and mental health first aid certification.
Crowning Sienna Dean as the winner of its new Nanyak Burras logo design competition, the announcement was made in front of a packed room as the youngster was bestowed with a unique place in club history.
The brief for entrants was to simply design the logo in Rumbalara’s famous blue, black, yellow and red colours, all while telling the story behind the final design.
A representative for the Nanyak Burras program praised Dean for her “creativity” and attention to detail in capturing the “spirit” of what the club was looking for with the logo design.
“Sienna’s design stood out with its creativity, meaning and strong connection to the spirit of the Nanyak Burras and the Rumbalara Football Netball Club community,” a representative wrote.
“When the winner was announced to a packed room, the response said it all, with everyone impressed by both the design and the powerful story behind it.
“Her logo will now become part of Rumba’s history for years to come.
“A huge thank you to everyone who entered the competition and shared their incredible ideas and stories behind their designs. The talent and effort shown across all entries was amazing to see.“
Describing what the logo meant to her, Dean provided a heartfelt summary of the story behind the design.
“When I look at this artwork, I don't just see colours and patterns. I see strength,“ she said.
“The yellow circle in the middle feels like a heart. It represents warmth, hope and the light that guides us.
Sienna Dean was crowned as the winner of the logo design competition at Rumbalara Football Netball Club.
“To me, it shows that no matter where we come from or what we've been through, there is always a place where we belong.
“The red and black flowing across the centre feel like our journey. Red reminds me of the land strong, grounded and full of history.
“Black represents our people, our stories, our resilience and our pride. The way they move together shows that our past and present are connected.
“We carry our history with us, but we also create our own path. The blue patterns around the outside is a connection to the Rumbalara Football Netball Club blue.
“The blue represents the Rumblaras community and all the amazing people who have helped shape it.
“The white writing stands out boldly. To me, that means confidence. It shows that young people can stand tall, be proud of who they are and make their voices heard though being strong leaders.
“This artwork tells my story of growth. It's about finding strength in identity, standing together and remembering that even when our paths twist and turn, we are never walking alone.”
