In June, the Strathbogie Shire Council announced FOOTT would deliver its services across the region among the newly introduced purple-lid, glass-only bins.
FOOTT brought five clubs on board - Avenel, Euroa, Longwood, Nagambie, and Violet Town - to help build and deliver the bins to homes in return for a donation to the club for its assistance.
Ultimately, 4290 glass-only bins were distributed to residents across the Strathbogie Shire before July 1.
Clubs received money for each bin they helped assemble and deliver.
Following the funding received, the sporting teams have delved into off-season upgrades.
Avenel purchased a new electronic scoreboard, while Violet Town has added the money to their infrastructure fund for maintenance and equipment replacement.
Nagambie and Euroa have ventured down improvements for their female club members, with the Lakers putting the money towards upgrading their tiered netball seating.
The Magpies’ funds will contribute to the construction of female change rooms.
Longwood, however, has taken a different approach.
Instead of placing the funds into material upgrades, the Redlegs have used the money to reward its junior netballers with tickets to the Constellation Cup.
The Constellation Cup features one of netball’s strongest international rivalries, with the Australian Diamonds netball team playing off against the New Zealand Silver Ferns.
The four-game test series begins at John Cain Arena in Melbourne, with Longwood president Ricki Shiner stating a chunk of the Redlegs’ approximate $3500 donation from FOOTT will be used for a dream opportunity for the aspiring netballers from the Goulburn Valley to witness the contest live.
“We all got a lick of the ice-cream, and it was money that probably none of the clubs were counting or banking on,” Shiner said.
“So we put some of the funds towards helping fund that exciting trip for the junior netballers.
““It was a great initiative, it helped all the clubs involved.”
The burgeoning Redlegs netballers will make the trip to the city on Friday.
