The star midcourter was picked in the final squad of 25 last August, whittled down to the remaining dozen picked to compete at next month’s National Netball Championship.
Not only will O’Dwyer make another appearance at the pinnacle of under-age representative netball, but she’ll do so as skipper alongside teammate Mia Aitken, Netball Victoria announced.
O’Dwyer is no stranger to the position as a former under-17 captain, and she was a key part of Victoria’s second-place finish at last year’s National’s before earning a spot in Australia’s under-19 side.
It’s yet another feather in the cap of one of netball’s rising stars, and Netball Victoria in its announcement said O’Dwyer was a “vital link” not just on the court, but off it.
“Now in her fourth year in the state team program, the dynamic midcourter continues to grow her impact,” the statement read.
“Known for her speed, composure and ability to drive play through the centre third, Mackenzie is a vital link between defence and attack.
“Her strong communication and calm leadership make her a key influence within the 19/U side.”
The State Netball Centre will host the national tournament from April 9-15.
Meanwhile in the Victorian Netball League, the Bendigo Strikers’ Victorian Netball League season is off to the perfect start with several Goulburn Valley stars playing their part.
Shepparton Swans starlet Harriet Gall and returning Seymour player Elle McDonald made their Strikers' championship debut in the round one clash against Booroondara Express.
The Strikers notched a 15-goal win over the Express in Bendigo, while Tatura’s Elsie Boyer saw her reign as captain of the under-23s begin on a winning note, claiming a 57-46 win over the Express.
