Wilson earned his spot at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre trials (June 8-13) after achieving personal best times at April's National Championships on the Gold Coast.
He'll compete in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events.
The AST gathers the best swimmers in Australia and serves as a stepping to world-class events and the Dolphins team - but to even get to this stage requires a power of work and dedication.
The 21-year-old’s desire to compete against the cream of the crop has thrust him onto the biggest domestic stage in Australian swimming, and Shepparton Swimming Club Head Coach Leanne Houkes-Wilson said his exploits have been an inspiration to the rising stars back home.
“It’s a credit to him,” Houkes-Wilson said.
“He’s been swimming for a long time and done the hard yards, the early mornings, lots of kilometres and travelling, and he’s still keen and still improving.
“For the club, it's fantastic to still have him swimming at that level, kids at the club can see it's possible.
“It takes time - but it's possible.”
Houkes-Wilson said a refreshed Wilson will benefit from time out of the pool post-Nationals, and the powerful youngster is targeting more PB’s and finals in Sydney.
“He’s been training hard; he did have a break after nationals because he hadn’t had a break for three years,” said the SSC coach.
“He’s looking fresh after the break, still got his speed and holding his pace, which is what we want.”
Wilson’s campaign began with the 100m breaststroke on Monday, with two events still to swim.
He’ll line up in lane four on Wednesday, June 10 around 12.44pm for the fifth heat of the 50m breaststroke, while his dash in the 200m event is scheduled to take place at 11.51am on Friday, June 12, launching from lane four in the fourth heat.
The Australian Swimming Trials are being broadcast on 9Now.
