The emerging shooter has made a seismic start to 2025, sitting third on the league’s goal tally with 115 after four rounds — and notably, the youngest and least experienced among the leading trio.
Only 2024 league top goal shooter Olivia Morris (Euroa) and reigning Wellman Family medallist and former Melbourne Vixen Kim Borger (Shepparton) sit above her.
That alone speaks volumes.
Gray’s start has been more than just loud; it’s been deafening.
With her movement in the circle defying her tall frame, marrying agility with instinct, Gray has earned an April nomination for The News’ Rising Star, as well as plenty of praise from Tatura playing co-coach Elsie Boyer.
“Charlette put in a huge effort over the off-season and it’s showing. We like to call her our strong queen — and with good reason,” Boyer said.
“She’s ripping balls in, contesting rebounds and bringing exciting variety to her game that's not only elevating her own performance, but also making a big impact on the team as a whole.
“Week by week, she’s growing in confidence and physicality, stringing together strong, competitive performances.
“We’re loving the progression and can’t wait to see how she continues to develop.”
Four rounds in Gray has been Tatura’s lodestar in the attacking third, racking up goals with the coolness of someone twice her age.
Her rise to power in the goal shooter bib has allowed last season’s chief scorer Julia Clarke to drop into goal attack, adding a new dimension to the Bulldogs’ attack.
Gray’s best day on the court this season came in a win over 2024 grand finalist Echuca, where she racked up the Murray Bombers’ 35-goal tally on her lonesome.
She was also instrumental in her side’s latest win, drilling eight fourth-term goals to help overturn a three-quarter time deficit against Shepparton Swans.
More importantly, Gray has speared Tatura to fourth on the ladder, with a tough loss to flag fancy Shepparton in the season opener proving to be the Bulldogs’ only blip.
Tatura is building something monumental and the young goaler is the cornerstone, a stabiliser and a statement-maker.
And with Gray’s rapid rise the Dogs are barking a little louder each week.
