Shepparton News announces its Goulburn Valley League Player of the Month and Rising Star nominees for May

May had a full four-game month of footy and netball, split down the middle by an interleague bye that featured vastly disparate results on the oval and court.

While the clash with Ovens and Murray League drummed up plenty of chatter, the sporting brainstrust at The News has put that to the side and analysed the past month of play to anoint the individuals who’ve been a cut above in the past 31 days.

In Friday’s edition of The News, we will elect the best GVL footballer, netballer and rising star winners of May and will continue to do so at the end of each month for the rest of the season.

The criteria for nominations are based on the past month, with respective open-age player of the month and 21-and-under rising star nominees required to have played at least two games of senior football or A-grade netball throughout the period.

At the end of the season, all Player of the Month and Rising Star winners will be graded, with the victorious nominees from the selected categories to receive a mystery prize.
