Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence announced 19 successful applicants will share more than $68,000 in grants from the latest round, including two clubs from the Greater Shepparton region.
The two consist of Rumbalara Football Netball Club and Burnanga Indigenous Fishing Club, with the pair of organisations provided funds to go towards uniforms and equipment.
Rumbalara is set to gear up for a premiership defence in the Murray League netball this year, while the football squad is set to push for finals contention when its season begins on Saturday, April 11.
The Burnanga Indigenous Fishing Club is the first ever First Nations fishing club born in Victoria, hosting an annual fishing competition in the Goulburn Valley region.
Additionally, the Goulburn Valley Aboriginal Education Consultative have received funds under the category of Aboriginal Sporting Carnivals, with the grant stated to be dedicated to a basketball tournament.
Spence stated the funds for both categories are vital in supporting the growth of emerging Indigenous athletes.
“We’re proud to support our next generation of First Nations athletes,” she said.
“Sport brings communities together like no other.
“This boost provides even more reason for First Nations athletes to kickstart a career in sport and follow in the footsteps of their sporting heroes.”
