The pair, finalists for the Visionary of the Year award, had teed off early to tune in for the 10am announcement.
But when a champion of women’s golf appeared on the Zoom call, that’s when it dawned on the Shepparton Golf Club duo.
Legendary Australian golfer Karrie Webb informed Morris and Eadie that they had won the 2021 Visionary of the Year award.
“It was very exciting; especially to have Karrie Webb present the award,” Morris said.
“We were both in shock.
“We didn’t really think that we would win but once we saw Karrie pop up on the Zoom call screen that was when we thought ‘oh, we might have won’.
“It was great to see her support the award, support women’s golf, and it was great to see a woman golfer recognised by presenting the award.”
Morris and Eadie were among four finalists for the Visionary of the Year gong.
The two women received the monthly award — which celebrates work to promote gender equality in golf — in June for their outstanding work on planning and implementing pathways to help women get into golf and become members at Shepparton Golf Club.
Once they were announced as finalists, voting opened to the public to decide who should take out the 2021 edition.
After months of Morris and Eadie helping out the community, it was time for the public to give back.
“Thank you to everyone who voted, we couldn’t have done it without you,” Morris said.
“Once voting opened, it was a pretty exhausting week, but Lynley did an amazing job spreading the word around.
“This (award) is not only great for women’s golf but golf in Shepparton in general. It will help get the news out about our club, which is fantastic.”
The award comes with $10,000 worth of Callaway REVA products — designed specifically for women.
Morris said the pair would put the equipment they had won back into the program.
Morris expressed her gratitude to everyone who played a role in getting their names on the Visionary of the Year award.
“We could not have done this without the help and support from the club’s lady members, general manager Russell Powell and the entire committee,” she said.
“Although Lynley and myself have our name on the award, it was a team effort.”
