In a dream start for St Brendan’s, Steven O’Connor, Andrew Kennedy and Bailey Anderson teamed up to win their first three doubles rubbers, before Karramomus clawed the game back in the women’s doubles match-ups, with Stacey Kay, Romney Cresswell and Marie Levett-Hall all picking up points.
Steven and Georgie O’Connor grabbed vital points for their side, but it was Karra’s John Gagiano and Levett-Hall who combined for a blow-out performance in the final doubles rubber which clinched the eventual 4-39 to 5-38 win for their side.
Shepparton North produced a commanding 9-54 to 0-16 win over Old Students to continue its unbeaten run.
Georgia Moore, Evan Cooknell and Wendy Sidebottom were just some of North’s standouts on the day, as their side raced away with the points.
The final pennant encounter saw McEwen Reserve beat out Central Park by just five games in a seesawing contest, with both sides now equal second on the ladder.
Tim Comer, Ben Ladson and Geoff Akers looked like they’d done enough after taking out the first three rubbers, before Janelle Pottenger, Jarrod Norman and Andrea Graham dug deep to keep their side in the game.
Akers and Heather Thomson ran out 6-3 winners in the final rubber which made the McEwen win official.
McEwen Reserve Green extended its stay at the top of the A1 ladder with a comprehensive 8-51 to 1-26 win over Shepparton North, while Old Students overcame McEwen Reserve Red in the other A2 match-up.
But it was St Andrew’s and Karramomus that played out the match of the round in the A2 division, with the game having to be separated on sets after both sides finished on 40 games apiece.
The stage was set for an enticing first versus second contest, with leader Karramomus striding into the match undefeated.
But that would soon change, and after St Andrew’s took out the first three rubbers, it was up to the Karramomus women to attempt to keep the Bloods’ unbeaten run intact.
The combination of Katherina Veal, Mary Dean and Ella Kerr ensured Karra wouldn’t go down without a fight as they clinched their three doubles rubbers, before St Andrew’s players Tony Shannon and Liz Nolan put their team’s fifth set on the board in a 6-2 win, capping off the 5-40 to 4-40 victory.
Central Park ran out a comprehensive victor as it triumphed over McEwen Reserve, while Shepparton North claimed the other win of the round after a forfeit from Old Students.
