With grand final tickets on the line, a pair of bowlers dished up their best efforts of the season to advance to the decider, while we take a preview at the match-ups for this season’s finales.
The roller coaster ride of Sundries is almost at a whirlwind finish, so strap in for the penultimate edition.
Let’s get it on Gilly!
At 2-139, Karramomus would’ve thought it would be playing off for the Jim McGregor Shield in C-grade, chasing just a further 30 runs for victory.
Gill Nav thought otherwise.
The Old Students bowler claimed seven wickets in as many overs, forcing a collapse of 7-20 before a run out on the final ball sewed up a narrow six-run win.
Nav took six of his wickets in his final three overs to dismiss the Bloods middle order and tail, marking one of the great individual performances with the Kookaburra, and one of the more remarkable capitulations with the bat simultaneously.
No bowling Sham
Sham Dadallage clearly enjoys a mention in Saturday Sundries.
The Euroa bowler has had a couple of name-drops in Sundries editions this season already, but his semi-final performance against Central Park-St Brendan’s is the best of the lot.
In fact, it’s the best of his career.
Dadallage claimed career figures of 8-36 off 27 overs against the Tigers as CPStB failed to endure a persisting spell with the red rock, losing the eight wickets across a 50-run stretch.
The Dadallage damage all but ended the Tigers’ hopes of victory after sitting nicely at 1-80, eventually bowled out for 139, which was promptly chased down in the 43rd over by the Magpies.
Grand final previews
In the B-grade Clyde Young Shield, the undefeated Euroa will take on reigning premiers Northerners in a blockbuster clash at Deakin Reserve.
Their last meeting saw the Magpies romp to a seven-wicket victory in 28 overs after bowling out the red and green for 95.
In C-grade, another top of the table clash between Undera and Old Students will take place.
The Lions and Students have faced twice already this season and yielded one win each, Undera winning comfortably by 93 runs in round four, before the Students chased down the Lions with only two wickets to spare in the final round of the regular season.
For the D-grade S J Perry Shield, minor premiers Tatura will play fourth-placed Pine Lodge.
However, Tatura’s only loss for the year came against the Lodgers, albeit all the way back in round one.
The pair of clubs have since encountered one another in round 10, Tatura defeating the green and gold by eight runs.
The E-grade Whitelock Shield will be competed for by ladder-leaders Waaia and third-placed Kyabram in a Haisman Shield grand final replica.
Waaia got the chocolates in its latest clash with Kyabram in the season’s last round, getting home in a thriller by two wickets with two balls remaining.
Kyabram will have its own confidence for the clash though, having beaten Waaia in round one, also by two wickets.
