We have a new high-score for the 2025-26 season.
Ryan Boswell went big for Old Students in the D-grade hitout against Central Park-St Brendan’s, pummelling 149 runs off only 109 deliveries in the Students’ total of 4-317.
Twenty-three of those deliveries sailed to the Victory Park fence - eight going for six - as Old Students notched a 170-run win.
Boswell wasn’t the only one dealing the damage for Old Students; Jason Wild did just about everything except take the gloves, whacking 54 runs and scalping 5-23 in an all-rounders exhibition.
Pine Lodge’s Mark Wilson also went big as D-grade’s other centurion for round eight.
Wilson, a batter with a double-century to his name, is clearly no stranger to a big score as he cracked 25 boundaries en route to 135 not out, adding a wicket with the ball to help the Lodgers to a 56-run victory.
Meanwhile, Mooroopna’s Mark Nolen joined a club that includes Shane Warne and Mitch Starc in the Cats’ clash against Old Students.
Nolen joined a famous coterie of cricketers to fall on 99 runs, Old Students’ Ali Haider halting the in-form Nolen’s 96-ball innings.
It would have been Nolen’s second ton of the year, but we doubt he’ll dwell on it for too long as the Cats went on to a total of 9-251, Old Students dismissed for 195 in reply.
On current form, he might not need to wait too long to raise both bat and helmet again; Nolen has cracked 446 runs at an average of 89.2 to stand as C-grade’s second-highest run-scorer.
Roaring with the ball
Undera Lions are roaring in C-grade, undefeated heading into Christmas.
They dished out more of the same dominance against Pine Lodge at the weekend, winners by seven wickets.
And at the tip of the spear was Ash Hockey.
The Lions’ opener tore the heart out of the Lodgers with 6-13, five of which were bowled to bundle out the hosts for 69 runs.
Hockey nearly had a hat-trick amid the carnage, but would have been content to just pick up the points for the win, as well as career-best figures.
Hockey wasn’t the only one to dole out some damage with the Kookaburra.
Central Park-St Brendan’s was struggling in its mission to defend 160 in the B-grade clash against Euroa, with the latter proceeding comfortably at 1-74.
It took the introduction of second-change bowler Chance Burridge to throw a spanner in the works for Euroa, snaring 5-37 to flip the game on its head.
Euroa still managed a tight two-wicket win, but Burridge’s point had been made - get me on earlier skip.
Meanwhile, Northerners bowler Oscar Buckland sent down 21 overs against Waaia and his 5-54 ultimately went a long way to rolling Waaia for 111 in reply to Northerners’ 166.
