At the pointy end of Cricket Shepparton’s lower-grade season, time is running out.

We’re not talking about booking a ticket to finals – we’re talking about the opportunity for the competition’s B to E-grade specialists to etch their names into Saturday Sundries.
Several took that opportunity with both hands at the weekend, including a bowler who failed to concede a run in eight overs and a batter who notched triple figures in just his second game in three seasons.
Saturday Sundries explores the high scores, the best figures, and everything in-between, including everything in front of the lens.

48 deliveries, 48 dots
Two or three overs without a blemish in the run’s column is a good spell for any bowler.
But eight? Well, it’s a tidy day’s work to say the least.
Nathaniel Timson’s spell of bowling at the weekend didn’t stuff the wickets column, but when his eight overs were done in Northerners B-grade clash against SYCU, the young seamer had not conceded a single run.
Timson accumulated 48 consecutive dot balls and didn’t walk away empty-handed, sneaking a delivery through Fahad Mirza’s defences to finish with figures of 1-0.
It was line and length on a string for the Northerners under-17, who also made 43 the week prior to fire his side to 8-295.
Josh Sidebottom top-scored at number nine with 86 and SYCU was dismissed for 91 in response.
Over to the bowlers
Come to think of it, it wasn’t a bad day for the Clyde Young Shield bowlers.
William O’Brien’s 5-18 against Tatura laid the groundwork for Nagambie to secure a valuable 37-run win, while Central Park-St Brendan’s Max Hooper extracted a five-for of his own to launch the Tigers to victory.
But perhaps the most valuable haul of the day came from Karramomus’s Angus Kerr, whose 5-33 helped the Bloods to a convincing win amid a whirlwind opening batting performance from Katandra’s Brady Black.
Back in Black
Out of a score of 199, Black’s 148 off 140 deliveries was clearly the standout.
The Eagles’ opener decided runs on the board quick sharp was the best policy in pursuit of the Bloods’ 315 runs, and the class of the long-time A-grade servant was apparent as he executed a series of meticulous drives.
After 26 boundaries and one maximum, only Black could bring about his own undoing, shelling a ball to point to bring a close to his career-best knock.
Elsewhere, a player usually best in the footy boots for the Shepparton Swans showed he’s equally adept with the bat in the hand.
Playing only his second game in three seasons, Joeve Cooper proved a more than adequate fill in for Central Park-St Brendan’s C-grade side, belting a quick-fire century to help the Tigers chase down Pine Lodge’s 208 runs.
Cooper ended unbeaten on 104 off only 65 rocks and claimed three wickets, handing the Tigers their third win of the season.
