Lancaster will travel to Rushworth Recreation Reserve on Sunday afternoon for round eight.
The league has become a game of snakes and ladders between the 2024 and 2025 seasons as teams unexpectedly fall and rise.
After going winless last year Rushworth is well and truly roaring this season.
The Tigers have gone 5-1 across the opening seven rounds in an incredible 180 on their fortunes.
Up the other end of the court, Lancaster has been on a steady decline since being pipped in last year's grand final by Girgarre.
The Wombats sit in sixth place with three wins and three losses, having been comprehensively beaten this season in all three defeats.
Saying that a loss for Lancaster on Sunday would end its season is an exaggeration, but slipping to a record of 3-4 would have the Wombats fall back to the pack.
Sides such as Murchison-Toolamba, Tallygaroopna and Violet Town (which beat Lancaster by 17 goals a fortnight ago) are hot on the Wombats’ heels.
The action continues with plenty of A-grade match-ups on Saturday sure to get supporters’ tongues wagging.
Violet Town will be hoping to bounce back from a 25-goal defeat to Girgarre last round when it hosts Stanhope.
Both sides sit on two wins and will be eager to secure a victory to keep in touch with the top six.
Girgarre will look to keep its A-grade side humming as it travels to take on battler Longwood.
The Redlegs are yet to win a game this season and a match — even on home court — against the reigning premier is a scary proposition.
Avenel will look to strengthen its position in the top six when it takes on Merrigum at Avenel Recreation Reserve.
The Swans are fresh off a heartbreaking one-goal loss to Murchison-Toolamba and will be wanting to make amends.
Avenel’s one-goal defeat was after it beat Tallygaroopna by a goal the week prior.
Saturday’s final match is expected to be a tight battle between two sides with finals on their radars as third-placed Nagambie hosts eighth-placed Murchison-Toolamba.
Sunday’s other match will be a fixture between Undera and Tallygaroopna at Undera Recreation Reserve.
Shepparton East has the bye.
