The Rumba legend represented the club on 100 occasions on the field, before turning his talents to coaching - leading the senior side in both the 2018 and 2019 terms, before serving as assistant coach in 2024.
He returned to his role at the helm of the senior set-up ahead of the 2026 season, overseeing a transitional campaign in the Murray Football League, which has included standout wins against Tongala and Echuca United.
Now, the proud Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung man is looking forward to building on developments on the playing field down at Rumbalara Recreation Reserve, with his beloved club having described his efforts as “tireless”.
“We are excited to announce that Kane Atkinson will return as Senior Coach for the 2027 season,” read a statement from Rumbalara.
“While Kane has been leading the team each week throughout 2026, he's also been working tirelessly behind the scenes, planning and preparing for what promises to be a huge year ahead.
“His commitment, passion, and vision for our football program continues to drive the club forward, and we're thrilled to have him at the helm for another season.
“This is only the beginning. We have plenty more exciting announcements to share over the coming weeks as we continue building towards a massive 2027 season, so stay tuned.

Formerly a senior club captain at Goulburn Valley League side Mooroopna, Atkinson brings bags of experience to his role as he looks to offer guidance to the next generation of stars.
Currently, Rumbalara is looking for a Reserves football coach to head up its operations moving into the next season, while vacancies are also open for the A, B, C and C Reserve netball coaches.
