But Kyabram district bowls enthusiasts will still get the chance to see the Scottish genius in action when he takes to the Kyabram greens this Friday night in a exhibition game.
Seven Kyabram Bowls Club players will get the chance to play with or against Marshall in the exhibition.
In an audacious quest Kyabram Bowls Club sought permission for Marshall to represent the club in a one-off pennant appearance this Friday night in what would have been a recruiting coup that could have brought the club and the sport national exposure.
But the request for a one-off pennant appearance by Marshall was rejected by the Goulburn Valley Playing Area.
It would have also required Tallygaroopna giving up its home game on Saturday to play at Kyabram on Friday night.
Marshall is currently in the region competing in a Bowls Premier League event at the Moama Bowling Club this week.
An association with Kyabram’s chairman of selectors Glenn Fields going back several years led to the bid from the Kyabram club to use Marshall’s presence to promote the sport in the region.
Marshall holds a record six World Indoor Championship titles, seven World Outdoor Championships and five Commonwealth gold medals among his mind-blowing list of achievements.
While disappointed the bid for a one-off appearance in Kyabram’s pennant team was rejected, the club is still stoked the 54-year-old is finding the time to provide local regional bowls enthusiast with a treat with his appearance at the club on Friday night.
He is expected to hand out some coaching tips to Kyabram bowlers before the exhibition game and will also be involved in a Q and A session with his audience to conclude the evening, which anyone can attend.
The club is catering for the event, which will get under way at 5pm.
