In the 20-over round robin to kick start the season’s launch, Northerners were dominant in both its clashes.
An 82-run knock by Jake Davidson set up a monster score against Mooroopna, with Northerners losing just four wickets for 183 runs.
As Mooroopna were sent into bat, Northerners continued its hot touch with the ball, with two wickets falling within the first three overs, and four wickets before the 10-over mark of the innings.
Aaron Di Fede would come in and stabilise Mooroopna’s innings, with an unbeaten run-a-ball 37, but the Jets would romp to a 66-run victory as the final ball was bowled.
Additionally in round one, Undera cruised to a nine wicket victory with six and a half overs to spare over Central Park-St Brendan’s.
The Tigers could only manage a score of 128 runs despite losing just three wickets, and Lion Russell Sheriff made them pay in scintillating style.
A monster 81 runs not out off of just 33 balls ensued following the first and only wicket falling at the beginning of the fourth over, as Sheriff smashed eight maximums to score a strike rate of 245.5.
Round two saw Central Park-St Brendan’s fall short again, falling five runs short to Old Students, 9-108 to 9-113.
Mooroopna suffered its second defeat too against Shepparton Youth Club United, with SYCU chasing down the Cats’ score of 5/109 in 19 overs with six wickets in hand.
Round three saw Euroa and Karramomus take to the field for their first and only round robin matches, with the pair scheduled to face one another.
Euroa secured a spot in finals with a huge 78 run victory, as three wickets to William Jackson were the catalyst behind limiting Karramomus to a score of 7-70.
Jackson was also handy opening the batting, scoring 33 runs, while skipper Jye Bjorksten made an unbeaten 46 to push Euroa out to 8-148 for their innings total.
Undera won its second match over Old Students by five wickets and with three overs to spare, however Old Students’ earlier win on Saturday was by enough to secure a top four spot for Saturday’s finals action.
An emphatic bowling display once again proved the difference for the minor premier-securing Northerners, who held SYCU to a score of 9-90.
A tailend capitulation saw SYCU drop 4-16 as Joshua and Trent Sidebottom shared the glory with the ball, taking three wickets each.
Nathaniel Timson’s 53 not out off 33 balls saw Northerners cruise past United’s low score before 13 overs had been completed, seeing the green and red enter Sunday’s finals games as hot favourites for the T20 title.
