The Lakers are right up the pointy end of the ladder again this season, but as they clashed with 2-1 side Tatura, which only lost to undefeated club Karramomus, Nagambie’s result could have gone either way on Saturday.
However, Biggs ensured the only case would be a triumph.
Forcing errant shots or purely ripping stumps out the ground with the white Kookaburra, Biggs left Tatura scrambling for answers at the Lakers’ home deck.
Mitchell Winter-Irving and James Auld were the first Nagambians to strike with the ball, dismissing Joshua Catalano and Daniel Coombs, but Biggs would send the next three packing, taking out big name Tatura batters Lachlan Magee, Kiran Green and Jayden Armstrong respectively.
While Blake Armstrong provided the resistance for Tatura, Nagambie sent four blue, white and red men packing without score, Tatura barely passing 45 overs at 9-144 by innings end.
It was a gettable target for the Lakers, but a chase that got off to a shaky start.
Openers James Wilson and Tom Barnes struggled to get the runs flowing early and fell for one and three respectively at strike rates less than 20, before Mitchell and Zac Winter-Irving got to work.
The surname-sharers tallied scores in the 40s, before the all-rounder machine of Blake Armstrong continued to be the catalyst for potential Tatura success, dismissing both Winter-Irvings with the pill.
However, as Zac Winter-Irving departed, the Lakers were 10 runs away from victory and it allowed the man of the hour to come in and finish the job he’d started.
After neatly placing a couple of singles and a two in the gaps, Biggs went bang to the boundary off the first ball of the 42nd over to officially end Tatura’s day in the field, with Nagambie winning by three wickets at 7-148.
The win has Nagambie well-placed on the Haisman Shield ladder, sitting third on equal wins with second, but for Tatura, a second loss on the trot has sent it spiralling outside the top six into eighth.
Tatura will need to beat winless Shepparton Youth Club United to overcome its form slump, while Nagambie is tasked with travelling to Mooroopna in round five.
THE GAME
Tatura 9-144 (Blake Armstrong 59 not out, Kiran Green 30, Brayden Biggs 5-24) lt Nagambie 7-148 (Zac Winter-Irving 45, Mitchell Winter-Irving 41, Jayden Armstrong 3-19)
STAR PLAYER
Brayden Biggs (Nagambie): A five-wicket haul that stopped any partnership that Tatura could get going, Biggs was the force that had Nagambie claim its third win of the season.
