Despite losing to each of the top three sides this season, Echuca’s victories against lesser opponents has kept it in the hunt for finals in September.
The round seven match-up against Mansfield never looked like going the way of the Eagles with the girls in green putting in a full four-quarter effort to get back in the winner’s column.
The first quarter was the closest stretch of play for the two sides, with the Eagles netting nine goals while Echuca narrowly pulled ahead with 13.
For the most part, the second period played out similarly to the first, but the Murray Bombers put on a few extra goals while limiting Mansfield to one less than its opening quarter total, the disparity now 11 at the major break.
Another 13-goal effort from Echuca continued to grind the Eagles into the ground, while the home side continued to slip slowly out of contention as the game progressed.
Trailing by 16 with a quarter to play, a comeback could’ve been feasible for Mansfield, but the Murray Bombers’ quality was too much to overcome.
Echuca submitted its quietest attacking stretch of play in the fourth quarter, but still managed to goal 11 times.
Meanwhile, it was the Eagles’ best period in their attacking third in crunch time, adding 12 to their total, but it was too little too late with the Murray Bombers cruising to a 15-goal victory.
The final score was Echuca 52 to Mansfield 37.
Rose Byrne continues to show that she has been a revelation for the Murray Bombers this year, putting in a mammoth effort in the goal circle with 41 to her name.
