Neville Smith, major shareholder in the galloper Half Yours who recently completed the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double, is bringing the famous silverware back to Undera, where he spent 20 years of his life from the 1950s to 1970s.
Smith will display the cup at the Undera Hotel between 5-7pm.
He is making the trip from Melbourne with racing mates in a stretch limousine to make the visit trip all the more memorable.
One of the organisers of the visit, Ray Sellwood, said Neville’s two brothers Glen and Darryl were also coming to renew acquaintances from the days their parents ran the Undera General Store and the brothers played junior football with the local footy club.
“Bob Boyer is getting a few of their teammates from their days playing at Undera to be there to welcome them,” Sellwood said.
“Neville is the sort of bloke who goes out of his way to do something like this and it should be a great night.
“You don‘t get Melbourne Cups making a visit to a little place like Undera every day so its great for the community.”
Sellwood has bred a pacer called Miki To Success who recently won the South Australian Pacers Cup and won a heat of the Vicbred Super Series for four-year-old colts and geldings at Bendigo on Wednesday night.
Sellwood races the pacer in partnership with former Undera footballers Kevin Powells, Bob Boyer, John Hommes and Joe Minutoli.
