The Shepparton Swans recruit enjoyed a fruitful four years playing in South Australia for SANFL side Norwood, but the opportunity to compete in the GVL for a competitive Swans outfit alongside his brother was something quick to jump at.
After a round one victory over Mooroopna, and early taste of VFL level at St Kilda, Warburton is relishing the move back to Victoria.
Speaking in the first episode of The News’ Media Fines podcast, Warburton reflected on the move from the Redlegs to the Saints and Swans.
“Norwood was a great experience, I spent four years under some great coaches there, and learned a lot,” he said.
“The return to the Swans, they had a great season last year, really come out of the ranks and made finals for the first time in 10 years so that's great to see.
“I wanted to get back and wanted to experience that.
“And to play with a lot of mates I grew up with, especially (brother) Oliver as well.
“I never played any footy with ‘Ov’... my first senior game with Oliver will be a great experience for my family and me.
“But just really to get back and try and help Swans take that next step was really a big push for me coming back.”
Swans teammate and VFL-listed Bomber Max Clohesy also joined the Media Fines podcast and spoke on how his connection to Seymour’s Nic Quigg landed him a VFL transfer out of Punt Road, while the pair also discussed adapting to the rule changes at both state and local level.
