Donations are being sought ahead of a Boot Swap event as Greater Shepparton City Council aims to offer families a helping hand ahead of the winter sports season.
This is in preparation for the event, which will take place on Saturday, May 2 between 9am and 3pm at Shepparton Sports Precinct’s Main Pavilion.
The council has collaborated with Kick It Forward and Shepparton Junior Soccer Association as it looks to supply pre-loved football boots to active local families.
Greater Shepparton City Council is collecting soccer, AFL and rugby boots in good, wearable condition to redistribute to children and young people across Greater Shepparton.
Boot donations can be dropped off at Shepparton Sports Stadium or Aquamoves between 10am and 4pm from now until Thursday April 30.
The initiative will culminate in a free Boot Swap event, where families can donate, swap or collect a pair of boots.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the Boot Swap aims to make sport more accessible for local families.
“Sport plays a vital role in our region. It builds confidence, friendships and a strong sense of belonging,” he said.
“We understand that families are facing increasing costs, and sporting equipment can be expensive, particularly when children quickly outgrow their boots.”
“This Boot Swap is about neighbours helping neighbours. By donating boots your children no longer need, you are helping another young person take the field this season.”
Council is encouraging sporting clubs, schools and families to get involved by donating boots or spreading the word.
Limited supplies will be available at the event and families are encouraged to arrive early.
