The team is made up of players in Year 11 or younger, and will compete in a carnival at Maitland from the end of October.
The highly competitive selection trials were conducted in Wodonga on Monday last week with 40 applicants trying out.
The group was then culled to 25, and then a final squad of 12 was chosen.
Leading the squad will be Deniliquin’s own Anthony Bradley as coach.
Bradley said Lochie will play a certain role in the team.
“Lochie was selected as a leg spin bowler,” Bradley said.
“Riverina will field a very strong side overall.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the boys to display their skills and meet other players and their families in a beautiful setting”.
As coach, Bradley was involved in final squad selection.
But he said he said he was out of the room when it came to assessing Lochie’s place in the team.
Having coached Lochie since he was quite young, Bradley said he wanted to eliminate all notions of favouritism.
For Lochie, the selection was a surprise.
But he said it’s a great chance to develop his cricket skills further.
“I’m pretty happy about getting selected, because I’ve not been selected at this level before,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to being among other players to learn the level I need to be at”.
Lochie has played as a junior with Deniliquin Rhinos since Milo Cricket.
He captained the under-14s to a premiership, and also captained the under-16 side last season in a grand final loss.
Bradley said Lochie’s cricketing skills are so advanced, he’s likely to get a run in the A-grade Rhinos side this coming season.
The CHS Riverina side will compete against the best high school cricketers in the state at Maitland from October 31 to November 3.
At the end of the carnival, the best players will be selected to form a CHS NSW cricket team.
