And they might just be in luck.
After collecting best-on-ground merits for the Wombats in a 19.11 (125) to 8.12 (60) grand final demolition of Nagambie, star midfielder Cameron Simpson hinted he’s not going anywhere fast.
“The club’s in a great space, the environment’s unbelievable,” he said.
“Being a Melbourne boy you’re not there throughout the week, but as soon as you rock up on a Saturday you get around the boys.
“It’s a special feeling to be a part of this club and I look forward to maybe a couple more years here at minimum.”
Simpson was more than a worthy recipient of the honour.
He was everywhere, terrorising the Lakers with effort after effort.
One minute the former Northcote Park gun was making crucial chase down tackles, the next throwing himself over the footy and he even finished with two goals to boot.

“The first quarter was pretty slow, but you work your way into it naturally ― you’re playing for the team at the end of the day,” he said.
“I got a bit of the ball, kicked a couple of goals and I guess the rest took care of itself. It’s just a consolation prize; the main one is the premiership, that’s what we got and that’s what I’m here for.”
Simpson did not have to think twice about suiting up for Lancaster this season.
As soon as the Wombats claimed last year’s flag, the buy-in from all players was clear ― and Simpson was one of the leading investors.
“It’s pretty special ... not often do you win the reserves and seniors back-to-back,” he said.
“Twelve months ago I decided to go around pretty much straight away.
“It was a goal of mine and the team’s to go back-to-back, and we’re a lot stronger this year.
“It’s a great feeling today, it probably hasn’t sunk in yet, but definitely enjoy the next few days.
“It’s been a big few weeks trying to prepare for it and getting the body right, but to get the job done pretty convincingly, it’s obviously pretty special. It’s why you play footy, you want to win flags.”
