Kyabram officials said in a statement earlier this week that they would be forfeiting the clash.
Goulburn Valley League board chair Peter Foott confirmed Kyabram had considered forfeiting its opening round A-grade match, but with the support of the league had reconsidered and, instead, the league would work closely with the club to ensure it maintains an A‑grade presence throughout the 2026 season.
At a recent netball delegates meeting, clubs also unanimously agreed to support the league in taking whatever action was required to assist the Bombers in avoiding a forfeit.
Kyabram president John Guinan said significant off-season player movement had contributed to the insufficient A-grade numbers.
Many senior players departed Kyabram for district clubs such as Tongala and Lancaster to pursue premiership opportunities, given the Bombers had endured several unsuccessful years at A-grade level.
“While we respect the decisions of those players, it has left us short on numbers at the top end,” Guinan said.
“That said, we are absolutely determined to maintain an A‑grade presence and work our way back to where this club belongs.”
The league will continue to work closely with Kyabram to ensure its A-grade presence remains intact.
“We need to consider all stakeholders in this situation — a decision like this does not just impact the Kyabram club,’’ Foott said.
‘’That’s why it is so important we support the club and find a way out of this rough period.
“This is a call to arms — not just to the Kyabram community, but to the wider Goulburn Valley netball community.’’
Kyabram will take on Rochester on Friday at Kyabram Recreation Reserve, with on-court action starting at 2.15pm.
