Highlight of the day was the stellar performance of young Kayne Crompton.
Kayne shot a round of six up to claim the men’s B Grade trophy.
This was five shots clear of his nearest rival Steve Piggott, who was second on 1 up.
The consistent David Kuiper fired 2 up to win A Grade while Mal Baker, with 1 up, won C Grade.
Alan Davidson was runner-up with 3 down.
Lynne McLean was the best of the women with 3 up to win B Grade.
Rosemary Britton on 2 down won A Grade.
Geraldine Prendergast won C Grade with 3 down after a countback.
Ball winners were Mareza Bauerle, Kathy Risstrom, Pam Spokes, Michael Whitley, Andrew Sierakowski, Mal Williams, Geoff Berry and Sam Skilling.
Nearest the pins went to Lynne McLean on the 9th, Sam Skilling on the 18th and Ray Falla on the 1st.
Mal Williams collected the voucher on the 5th courtesy of Nushade Awnings and Blinds.
Lynne McLean completed the double by being closest on the 6th for the voucher from Firstea Café.
Wednesday’s field attracted over 50 players for the multiple Stableford event.
It was tough going as either playing partner tried not to make to many mistakes.
As it was noted, if a player had a good score on a hole then his partner also had to be vigilant.
Recently cored greens made the going rather daunting.
The eventual winners were Cameron Willis and Scott Childs with 70 points.
Runners-up were Mel Lusher and Jim Miller with 67 points, while Steve Grills and Justin Barnett were third with 66 points.
Brendan Ryan and Tom Curnow were fourth on the same score of 66 points.
Ball winners were Sam Attardi/Alan Davidson, Mark Hendy/Noel Boyd, Mal Baker/Dom D’Augello, and Peter and Billy Ryan.
Nearest the pins went to Sam Attardi on the 18th for the Brett Cox Electrical voucher.
Mick Sullivan was closest on the Clive Coventry Funerals 15th, Vaughan Moss on the Ky Pizza and Pasta 9th.
Steve Piggott was on the 1st.
Phil Plumb was nearest on the 6th for the voucher from Firstea Café.
Peter Fawcett picked up a ball for his efforts on the Ray’s Pond 14th.

Parkland women
Tuesday, September 22 saw a repeat of the attendance last week, with another field of 39 women turning up for the stroke event, with many results again very good.
This week it was Jenny Cheong Backway’s turn to have a good day out.
In fact, her results over the last month or more have seen her handicap continually reduced, and no doubt will show a further reduction following her effort on this day.
Jenny, with her score of 83-38-45 nett, not only won C Grade, but by having the best nett score overall (45 nett) took home the Ky Pizza and Pasta award.
As the Final of the Roma Fraser Brooch was included in the competition, Jenny was also named the winner and will be presented with this annual award on presentation night.
Kyra Clarke, also in good form, was C Grade runner-up with 82-31-51 nett.
A Grade winner and currently playing good golf was Heather Sleeth with 74-21-53 nett.
In B Grade, a countback was necessary to determine results, with Mary Elliott taking top spot with 76-23-53 nett from Lyn Berry, runner-up with 75-22-53.
Ball recipients were Sue Bennett 52, Lyn Fraser 54, Chris Kelly 54, Sonya Verlinden 55, Jan Gentle 55 and Mareza Bauerle 55.
Nearest the pin on the 9th was won by Kathy Fanning, while Mary Elliott grabbed the jackpot with her second shot on the 18th, and Kyra Clarke took home the Firstea voucher for nearest on the sixth.
Valley View
The excellent field that turned out for the Grand Final Eve 4BBB Stableford event produced some very good scores, with 44 ultimately proving to be the magic number at the top of the Jack Bond Leaderboard.
That number was posted by both the men and ladies’ winners in Paul Kuiper and Mick Gallivan, and Von Morris and Wanda Hacon.
Paul and Mick did some good work on the par three holes, with Paul birding the 3rd for four points.
Between them, they managed to par the other three short holes, while Mick finished with 25 of their 44-point score.
For Von and Wanda, the decisive holes on an otherwise even card came on the 16th and 17th, which Wanda made par on for three and four points, respectively.
Peter Blackmore and Lawrie Casey finished as the men’s runners-up with 43 points in a three-way countback from Kelly Cheong, Bomber Rathjen, Graeme Harrison and David Collins, while Merryn Anderson and Trudy Denham were the ladies’ runners-up with the same score.
Kelly, Bomber, David and Harro took home balls from the ball comp, as did Helen Emery and Jenni Bauerle, who finished with 42 points.
Nearest the pin trophy winners were the previously mentioned Paul Kuiper (B Grade - 3rd), Glenn Laity (A Grade - 12th), Tom Mangan (B Grade - 12th), and Jenni Bauerle (12th), and Peter Mangan (15th) took home the Firstea voucher.
Tom Pyke (9th) and Pooch McHale (13th) won the second shot balls.
On Tuesday, Paul Pappin was a runaway winner in B Grade with the day’s best score of 41 points, finishing five points clear of runner-up David Collins with 36 points.
Paul had a very consistent round, scoring on every hole and finishing with a 20-21 point front nine-back nine split.
Meanwhile, A Grade was dominated by the Harrison family, with Wil posting a winning score of 39 points as he knocked his handicap down another shot to six, while Daryl (playing off five) finished as the runner-up with 36 points.
Wil set up his win with three consecutive birdies on holes three, four and five, picking up the NTP ball on the 3rd along the way.
Ball winners were Gordon Mackay with 36 points, Peter Blackmore (35), Peter Lyon (34), Jeff Carnie (34) and Bud Thorsen (33).
Kevin Baurle won the A Grade NTP on the 12th, and Graeme Harrison the second shot ball on the ninth, while Daryl made it a good day for the Harrisons, scooping up the second shot ball on the 13th and the Firstea voucher on the 15th.
This week’s event is the October monthly medal, while our 11 monthly medallists from the past 12 months will also fight it out for the Medallist of Medallists trophy.

Valley View women
Valley View women played the Doris Chambers Stableford Foursomes event last Wednesday, with the winners progressing to the state final in Melbourne.
We thank our generous sponsor for the day, I Want, I Need.
Clear winners with 39 points were Tracey Wade and Helen Emery.
Runners-up Margaret Smerdon and Judy Sutton finished with 34 points.
Leanne Busch was nearest the pin on the 12th and Janice Johnstone was nearest on the 15th.
Results from our Kyabram Showcase Jewellers sponsored Jewellery Day, held on Monday, will be in next week’s report.
Merrigum Golf
It was an early kick-off for Merrigum golfers on Saturday so those who still had an interest in the AFL grand final could make it home in time to watch the big game.
Despite the early start, there was an excellent turnout for the pairs ambrose event, with even the prospect of early showers not deterring players.
Fortunately the showers didn’t amount to anything substantial, and the temperature remained reasonably comfortable until later in the day, when everyone was back in the clubhouse or on their way home.
Much like the big game itself, the competition was very close, with not a lot separating the pairs at the end of the day.
Andrew Wood and Wink Findlay were the winners with a two over par round of 72-6.25-65.75.
Whether it was skill or luck, they holed some magnificent putts that made the difference to winning the day or finishing among the also-rans.
Given the number of times they holed the unlikely putts, it has to be put down as skill.
They hit the “wharfie time” button after the 15th hole, but unlike their Fremantle counterparts they put the foot down, with birdies on the next two holes, rated number one and four for difficulty on the course.
The runners-up were Bruce Brown and Tommy Ladhams, who also had 72, but with a less generous 5.75 handicap for 66.25 nett.
They may well have won the day had it not been for eagle-eyed Tash in the office who noticed their handicaps had been divided by three instead of four. Bad luck guys.
Nearest the pins were won by Cory Berghofer on the ninth, Alan Fabris on the jackpot 12th, and John Evans on the 14th.
The chook shed challenge was won by Woody and Wink with 17 on the four holes.
This Saturday’s event is Stableford.
With the beginning of daylight saving this coming weekend, twilight will begin the following Thursday.
