It’s a simple, yet effective order handed down to the Goulburn Valley Suns’ playing contingent by coach Craig Carley ahead of Saturday’s match.
The side is back at McEwen Reserve hoping to replicate recent glory following last weekend’s 4-0 drubbing of Boroondara at home, this time meeting Beaumaris in round two of the Victorian NPL3.
“I thought the boys executed the game plan very well last week, and again, this is going to be no different this week,” Carley said.
“It’s going to be another tough ask against a very disciplined side; it’s slightly different in the way Beaumaris set up.
“I’ve watched a fair bit of footage of them – I watched their last pre-season game against Whittlesea Ranges.
“They’re a very good side, they work really hard and are disciplined in what they do.”
Arriving in contrasting form to the Suns, Beaumaris shipped two late goals as it succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Melbourne Victory Youth in round one.
However, Carley has advised his troops they should brace for a tougher barrage from Beaumaris, particularly when in possession.
“They probably play a bit more football than what Boroondara did so it’s certainly going to be a different kind of game, but one where we have to be on top of our game if we’re going to get the three points,” he said.
“We have the luxury where we do have the opportunity to look at other teams in terms of getting the footage, so we can work and implement game plans from week to week.
“But for us, really, it’s about sticking to our strengths — we’ve got some excellent players who want to get on the ball, so they’re going to be a team who are going to press us really high.
“If we can be brave enough to play through that press, I think we’re going to get a lot of joy going forward.”
The Suns are largely unchanged from the season opener, with a similar line-up expected to hit the Theatre of Dreams come Saturday.
Willie Sauiluma is touted to rejoin the squad following his absence in round one with a calf injury, filling the hole left by Ury Fernandez, who went down clutching his knee against Boroondara.
“We don’t know the severity but it could be anywhere from six weeks to six months,” Carley said.
“We really don’t know at this stage, which is obviously really disappointing because Fernandez has been fantastic in preseason.”
