Central Park-St Brendan’s has cruised to a two-day win over Shepparton Youth Club United in Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield, securing second place on the ladder.
The Tigers had SYCU bowled out for 161 and made a brief start to its run chase on day one, inching to four without loss after facing one over to reach stumps.
However, as pads were re-strapped and middle stump was remarked on the Deakin Reserve turf, openers Sam Holland and Jack McCarten ripped into the SYCU attack.

Requiring about two runs an over to reach the target set by United, the Tigers pair were patient but calculated in their approach, with McCarten the first to begin punishing.
Three sixes and 11 fours saw McCarten reach 83 off 93 balls before SYCU skipper Sam Nash caught a false aerial shot, ending a 123-run partnership.
Holland would motor on however, enduring patches of tight bowling from the likes of Cooper Adkins and Abraham Lake, but SYCU would remain incapable of drawing a bad swing from Holland’s bat.
It took nearly the entire Central Park innings for Holland to do it, but as the opener neared a maiden career century, patience, poise and rational was key to ensuring the feat was achieved.
Then the moment - Holland flashed a straight bat at a pace delivery from Joseph Hammond on a fifth or sixth stump line, timing a grounded shot into the outfield.
With Holland on 98, the left-hand bat called for two, hustling back and forth along the wicket to get to triple figures, before nonchalantly lifting his bat to the stands and punching gloves with Tyler Larkin.
At inning’s end, the Tigers’ exceptional quotient of 2.243 was illustrated bare and simple again, knocking yet another 200-plus score with a long list of batters still waiting in the sheds.
A potential early finals preview is on the cards for Central Park-St Brendan’s in round 11, facing Numurkah at home, while SYCU can finish the season on a high note if it defeats last-placed Pine Lodge.
THE GAME
SYCU 161 (Sebastian Menzhausen 51, Joseph Hammond 25, Jarrod Wakeling 4-66) lt. Central Park-St Brendan’s 2-259 (Sam Holland 102 not out, Jack McCarten 83, Cooper Adkins 2-57)
STAR PLAYER
Sam Holland (Central Park-St Brendan’s): After facing 255 balls, Holland’s patient innings was all worth it with an eventual unbeaten ton. His steady contribution made the Tigers’ chase of 161 a breeze as well, hitting the winning runs at the 47th over.
