GVPA names its Rowland-Sutcliffe Trophy side for Murray Valley showdown

Goulburn Valley Playing Area has nominated its 24-player men and women’s squads to face the Murray Valley in the Rowland-Sutcliffe Trophy.

Named in honour of district legends Maurie Rowlands and Geoff Sutcliffe, the four-time reigning victors GVPA will be hoping to extend its recent dominance in the Goulburn Murray Bowls Region (GMBR) representative clash at Numurkah Bowls Club on Sunday, November 9.

The Goulburn Valley were winners in the latest edition and have called on some of its best talent in the first of several representative bowls hitouts en route to the Bowls Victoria Region Sides Championship.

The Rowland-Sutcliffe Trophy will double as a trial for the GMBR side, which will face Ovens and Murray in December.

From that clash, the final representative side will be selected for the state showdowns, but the Goulburn Valley’s first focus will be on conquering its MVPA neighbours.

The GVBA is represented from a large cross-section of the competition, with reigning Allan Matheson Shield premiers Shepparton Golf having nine members named for the men’s squad.

In the women’s side, eight players from Shepparton Park have been added to the women’s team.
