Xavier, Nathan and James McBain all hit the back of the net for their side as the Strikers dismantled Mooroopna 4-1 in the competition’s second round.
Coming into the contest buoyed by its first win in nearly a decade, Mooroopna fought hammer and tong, but couldn’t match the pace set by the reigning premier.
Gurpreet Bhullar got on the board for Mooroopna, while Evan Collins added to the Strikers’ score line after the “McBain Train” had rolled through.
Elsewhere, Echuca-Moama grabbed its first points of the season without lifting a finger as SYC forfeited.
It was a happier affair for Mooroopna in B-grade.
Matthew Deppeler spearheaded the Cats’ 6-1 smashing of the Strikers, building on last week’s 2-0 win over Shepparton Youth Club.
Echuca-Moama also got up in B-men as William Kerr starred with two goals in the 4-1 beating of SYC.
Laying the foundation in round one, Mooroopna’s 2-1 win in B-women sent it to the top of the tree alongside Echuca-Moama, which had the better of SYC 5-0 on Saturday.
Earlier, Christy Christie led Benalla to a needed win as it produced a five-goal thrashing of Euroa.
In the under-17s, goals to Jye Berryman and Liam Caiafa had SYC-Strikers overcome Echuca-Moama 2-1.
Lucas Kell was the lone scorer for the River Rats.
In the following game Mooroopna-Benalla hit home three unanswered goals to knock off Goulburn Valley Grammar School.
A nine-goal thriller between Mooroopna and Strikers lit up the under-14 division.
Sam Holland thrashed in four for the Strikers during the 6-3 epic, while Nash Berryman was a force with stick in hand having put away two of his own.
On Friday night, SYC had a field day against GVGS with the scores reading 5-0 in the former’s favour.
GVGS had its revenge in half field action, however, as it trounced Strikers 13-1 in the under-12s.
Lastly, Xavier Watson was named best-on-ground for SYC when the youngsters toppled Benalla 4-1 in the grade's other game.
