Kyabram’s Jacob Cartwright and Charlie Boswood teamed up in the Big V alongside Moama pair Jacob Brighton and Brock Keenan, underscoring their talented billing by securing the Tri-Series Shield in a multi-format showdown against NSW and Queensland.
Victoria finished the tournament with a 7-5 record, with the Big V securing victory after the under-18 girls, who featured Moama’s Mackenzie Parsons and Gracie Retallick, finished runner-up.
Cartwright, who also enjoyed success at the School Sports Australia bowls competition for Victoria, was presented his debut state cap by sister and fellow star Olivia, who has also been in the mix for more accolades.
Cartwright enjoyed a deep run into the invitation-only Golden Nugget tournament at Club Tweed, taking former Australian representative Chloe Stewart in the first round of sectional play with a thrilling 33-end showdown in the first to 25 shots.
She won her next two of four and made it to a semi-final stoush against Kelsey Cottrell, who prevailed 25-22.
Cartwright has also made a move on the pennant bowls front, making the switch from Moama to Bendigo Bowls Club.
It will soon be Tallygaroopna star Mitch Sidebottom’s turn to represent Victoria, set to compete in the upcoming Test series against NSW in Dandenong on August 8 and 9.
He’ll then make the trip to the Australian Indoors Championships in Tweed Heads alongside Cartwright on August 11.
