With the dreams of a Moon Walker, but Onley for the AFL, this Goulburn Valley triumvirate was hoping to impress on the national stage on Sunday.
Gun Goulburn Valley junior footballers Riley Onley (Shepparton United), Harry Moon (Rochester-Numurkah) and Cody Walker (Echuca) represented the state on the Marvel Stadium turf at the weekend.
The trio donned the Vic Country guernsey for a tough clash against a dominant South Australia in the AFL National Under-18 Boys Championships for round four of the carnival.
Onley and Moon, in their top-age season, were looking to give AFL recruiters a glimpse into their potential as they hoped to take down the undefeated Croweaters.
As a bullocking 194cm inside midfielder, Onley impressed as he collected 20 disposals, five marks, five tackles and four clearances.
Meanwhile, Moon has had a steep rise this season after impressing for the Murray Bushrangers at Coates Talent League level.
The nullifying key defender had seven disposals and three tackles in a tough game as South Australia went on to win the match by 34 points.
Echuca, Carlton father-son, Richmond NGA Academy and bottom-age star Walker was also busy, finishing with 12 disposals, four marks and four tackles.
Walker looms as a potential number one draft pick for 2026.
The carnival, made up of representative sides Vic Country, Vic Metro, South Australia, Western Australia and the Allies (the remaining states and territories), has each team play one another in four fixtures.
South Australia has been crowned king of the championships after going undefeated across its four matches, while Vic Country sits 0-2 after losing to Western Australia as well.
The Goulburn Valley trio also featured in the match against WA and will be looking to continue its time at the level when Vic Country takes on the Allies at Ikon Park this Saturday.
