Tyndall is set to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games in 2026 following an undefeated tournament in Bangkok that determined the Oceania qualification spot.
The 29-year-old featured in a four-man side playing the 3x3 format, a growing spin-off of traditional basketball that debuted in the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
Playing India, Malaysia and New Zealand for qualification, Australia’s only real threat came up against its rivals over the ditch, but from then on it was a cruisy ride towards Glasgow glory.
The Australian team, nicknamed the Wombats, defeated India and Malaysia dominantly 21-1 and 15-6 respectively, while against New Zealand the quartet of hoopers clutched up for a narrow 15-11 win.
It presents Tyndall with his first opportunity to don the green and gold at the Commonwealth Games after missing selection in 2022, however, he represented the Australian Rollers for traditional wheelchair basketball at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021.
Wombats coach Ben Ettridge praised the playing group for their efforts as the quartet eye consecutive gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, as well as at the 3x3 wheelchair basketball world cup.
“It’s another step in the journey for the team. This group is very focused on repeating the success from the World Cup earlier this year and Birmingham 2022,” Ettridge said.
“It’s also such a valuable part of these guys development and maintains the legacy of the Australian men’s wheelchair basketball program.”
Tyndall’s focus will turn back to the Rollers’ unit, with selection to have him play in the upcoming Asia Oceania Zone Championships, also in Bangkok this week.
